BEACH SESSIONS, but different!
Who enjoys posed family portrait sessions where everyone needs to act and look perfect? I honestly don’t know a single person, and I’ve photographed these types of sessions for about ten years now! Since Vero Beach alone has so many photographers who specialize in traditional portrait sessions, I’ve decided to go back to Family Documentary Sessions in 2026 for even our shorter sessions. What is a shorter Documentary Session? How is it different? Well, read on, and see if this is a good match for you:
Florida's gorgeous beaches provide a perfect backdrop for your family photos! We have so many beautiful beaches to choose from in Vero Beach and in the surrounding areas. I don’t know about you, but something about the ocean and the beach brings my heart so much joy and peace. The beach really is a great spot for family photos!
Our Beach Sessions are perfect for shorter Documentary Sessions. Bring a surf board, boogie boards, sand toys, a ball, a picnic - or plan to do nothing! We’ll capture your family hanging out, enjoying nature and being together. These sessions are very relaxed and easy-going. We want your family to be comfortable and to have fun. Think of our session as hanging out with your favorite people, and having your new friends (us!) along to make lasting, special photos for you to hang on your walls, give to your loved ones, and use as Christmas cards. In the beginning - or at the end we’re happy to capture a posed portrait of your family.
The best time for soft, natural light is about an hour before sunset. We will start approximately 1-2 hours before the sun sets. These sessions will look like your family, so come as you are. If it helps to have suggestions, I’d recommend coming barefooted, and in comfortable outfits. Bring a picnic basket or snacks with you. Before your session we can talk about choosing a favorite activity for our session, maybe flying a kite, kicking a ball, playing with beach toys, or even getting in the water with boogie or skim boards.
We can start by getting some quick portraits of everyone together (and in separate groupings, if you wish), then I will let your family interact and play together, while I document the sweet and fun moments. If necessary, I can direct your family during the short (5-15 minutes) portrait portion.
Toward the end of your session I will usually ask everyone to come together for a last group picture. By then everyone is very relaxed, and usually quite sandy and wet, too, and these photos often end up being the favorites.
The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination, and brings eternal joy to the soul.
