Recently in Palmetto, Florida, I had the incredible opportunity to document a 1/2 Day in the Life with the B Family! Wendy and Jim have 12 kids, and most of them are adopted! The oldest ones are all grown up and having families of their own, and this little family reunion was the perfect time to capture some updated photos.
Wendy and Jim’s 35th wedding anniversary is approaching in August, and family members from all corners of the world coming together. This photo session was filled with so much anticipation and excitement!
Wendy and Jim's family is the epitome of love and compassion, as they have welcomed eight of their twelve beautiful children into their lives through adoption. With the oldest daughter now having two children of her own and others venturing out into different parts of the world (one son in Australia!), the importance of gathering everyone together for this special occasion was undeniable.
One of the sons was getting married two days after our family session. While the bride couldn’t make it to the session, it didn’t dampen the spirits of this close-knit family. With the sun shining brightly on that eventful day, we set off on a photo session adventure that aimed to capture the beauty of this family’s bond.
With so many different family members of all ages, it was a little bit tricky to get a good picture of everyone together. The only time when everyone was available and the babies were awake was in the afternoon, which is when we encounter some bright sun here in FL.
However, undeterred by this hurdle, Wendy's quick thinking and resourcefulness led us to a solution. She approached a random stranger and, much to our delight, he graciously allowed us to use his front yard as our backdrop.
Although this location wasn't initially planned, we made the most of the opportunity, knowing that time was of the essence. The family gathered together, embracing their loved ones as we got the shot.
Wendy's vision for the photo session was to capture the depth and beauty of their relationships as a family. Throughout the day, I observed the tender moments, the laughter, and the bonds that transcended blood ties. My documentary style of photography played to this strength, we were able to authentically portray their familial love.
This 1/2 Day in the Life photo session with Wendy and Jim's family in Palmetto, FL, was a blast. Despite the challenges faced, the day was a fantastic experience. No one would be able to tell that we rushed through the large family portraits!
As Wendy and Jim approach their 35th wedding anniversary, this photo session will serve as a testament to their enduring love and the legacy they have built together.
