When you have a Day in the Life Session with me, a slideshow video is included in your session price. I choose approximately 100 of the best images to tell the story of the day. I highly encourage purchasing a book as well - children love looking at the images from our day together, and it is a very special keepsake for parents, too. High resolution digital images and wall art are also available for purchase.
Sit back and enjoy this video from a homeschool family in Florida with eight children, puppies and hobby farm animals. Some of the images can also be seen in these blog posts: Part One, Part Two and Part Three.
Contact me to book your session! Limited weekday and Saturday sessions are available. Read more here.
Homeschool Family Day in the Life Session, Part 3
Remember this Florida homeschool family? Here is Part 1 and Part 2 of their pictures. Life and travel happened, and my poor blog is one of the first to get neglected. But if you haven't seen the previous posts, you'll want to hop back and read them first! I got to spend a day with a homeschool family in Florida where mom and dad are raising eight kids in an idyllic countryside setting.
You probably know I have six kids - three boys and three girls myself, and I love the life (and craziness) kids bring. Especially boys. This family has six boys (although the older two were gone most of the day working), and two girls. Not super noisy - in fact I find large families often learn to work together in a harmonious way - you have to! Kids learn to watch out for each other, and every one has chores and tasks to help manage the home life.
These images are a collection from the afternoon homeschooling and indoor chores. It's amazing to think how much these puppies have grown since our April Day in the Life Session. You can't see it as clearly with children - although you can in babies. I am a huge advocate in documenting these fleeting months and years the littles are little.
If you are ready to make a documentary of your own family's life, don't hesitate to contact me! I find the all day ones more meaningful, but we can always do a shorter morning or afternoon Day in the Life Session, too. (More info on full Day in the Life Sessions here.)
Next up - a video from this session!
Homeschool Family Day in the Life Session, Part 2
If you missed Part One of the S family Day in the Life, click here, and read that first.
As the high school biology fetal pig dissection class was wrapping up in the kitchen, I followed their 6-year old daughter and 7-year old son to the woodsy area of the backyard. Swoon! This area was beyond gorgeous! I felt like I was making portraits instead of documenting their ordinary day. Such lucky children to have this as their playground! Can you believe their mad tree climbing skills?
Exploration and playtime was only interrupted because of a picnic lunch outside. All but the oldest two boys (who were at work) gathered around the picnic table for prayer, fellowship and meal. There is so much life and love in this family!
Their mama dog had thirteen puppies in March! There was quite the campaign going on about keeping a few of them ;-) Can't blame the kids! The puppies were the cutest!!!
Ummm... How many kids are swinging from the same rope in that tree?
I think, hands down, this was the best homeschool science class, P.E., lunch and recess ever! Stay tuned, next up is more homeschool lessons.
Homeschool Family Day in the Life Session, Part 1
I am so excited to feature my latest Day in the Life Session. If you follow me on social media, you've already seen glimpses of this incredible day I had in April, and as I started this blog post I realized this has to be broken into several stories. So this is Part One.
Let me tell you a little bit about this family. I met the S family during hurricane Irma when both our families evacuated to Georgia, to stay at our mutual friends' house. I knew immediately I wanted to do a Day in the Life Session to document a normal day for them, and I was so happy when the parents saw the value in what I do - they both appreciate photography, and documenting the sweet and the crazy in life. (And there is plenty of both in every family, and an extra dose in the larger families :-)
This family has eight children. They range in age from two to nineteen. I was so glad to document a day for them before their oldest had moved out - since I didn't manage to do that with my own family (I'm waiting for our own Day in the Life pictures from last month, but we had to do them without one of our boys - he is attending college in Virginia now.).
Mom homeschools the children (the two oldest were at work most of the day), and she teaches homeschool high school biology classes online. She is also very involved with the local homeschool community. If I may brag about this amazing woman - she has lived overseas and she speaks several languages. I'm pretty sure she is also teaching Latin to her children! She is also a doula, and photographs some of the births, too! I think there is very little she can't do.
And get this - it just so happened they were scheduled to do a fetal pig dissection for their high school biology class the day I was there! I got to to document that, which is so cool. And what is even cooler - and this is very common for homeschoolers - mom didn't just do this with her one high school biology student, as you can see from the pictures above, everyone was super interested in what was going on. Learning happens all the time! At all ages!
So some of the younger kids got a little distracted during the end of the dissection. They did some weird stuff, which always happens at every Day in the Life Session with kids. Kids do weird things. I think they are wired for that! And I am ready with my camera, haha.
The S family lives on a farm, and the children have the most magical childhood. A lot of my pictures from our day together is of the trees :-) Kids climbing, swinging or jumping from the trees. Really - a documentary photographer's dream day!!!
The images from Part One are just from the early morning. The littlest took a nap in dad's office, where dad worked from home that day.
Next up in the series is images from their backyard, which totally looks like a lifestyle portrait session or a session of environmental portraits. I kept pinching myself - this was truly 'just' an ordinary day for the S family, a Day in the Life Session where I do zero directing and where there is zero posing.
To read more about my Day in the Life Sessions, click here and here, and stay tuned for Part Two of the S family Day in the Life. In the last part I will also include a video from the day.
I have four Day in the Life Sessions available this summer - in New England and in Finland, but we can book Florida (and travel!) Day in the Life Sessions for September on. A deposit is required to secure your day. More details on my summer session availability can be found here.
